Julia Witmer
by Cathy Soukup
This profile of Ms. Witmer was written by Cathy Soukup, Keystone student and member of the Keystone Connection staff. Following are excerpts from the Teacher Feature:
Mrs. Witmer is the Honors chemistry teacher for Keystone National High School. She has always loved chemistry, as well as watching other people learn it and apply it to their lives. Mrs. Witmer decided this [teaching for Keystone] would be a great opportunity to try something new while doing something she loves. This was also a great way to spread her knowledge worldwide instead of just in one classroom.
Before becoming a teacher, Mrs. Witmer graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Food Science and a minor in Chemistry. She also received her Master's degree in Nutrition while working toward a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. Her original passion for chemistry came from earning all of these degrees.
In her spare time she likes to read books, especially ones about science. Mrs. Witmer also enjoys traveling, cooking, spending time with her family, and playing the clarinet. Her other hobbies include collecting periodic tables of the elements and chemistry books, as well as mugs from foreign places.
